Summer Sunday School Through September 5th-For Adults, College, and Youth

      The NOOMA video series
             Lively table discussions and fellowship

The dad walks down the beach, his little son darting into the ocean and then out again. Dad tells us a story, glancing back to smile at his son again and again as he talks.

They were in a mall, and a guy at a kiosk was playing with a rubber ball attached to his wrist by an elastic cord. The man threw it, caught it, did tricks. And the two and a half year old yells 'I waaaaaant one.' Dad said no, explaining that it wouldn't be fun, that it wasn't as easy as it looked, that the boy could even get hurt. Eventually the boy moans, "But I thought you looooved me."

The toddler didn't know that his dad planned to take him to buy his very own kickball next. And when they were in the sporting goods store, and Dad asks the boy which ball he wants, the toddler says he wants the 'owange one.' Dad and son leave the store in a march of triumph, with the boy clutching his owange kickball joyfully.

That's the beginning of one of the NOOMA videos, which the UFH Sunday School class is using this summer. But the rest of the video - and then the conversation - centers around how we're like that toddler, sometimes asking God for things that aren't right for us, and sometimes feeling like God must not love us. And we explore together the idea that, even though we're too little to see it, God has plans for us that are so much better.

Oh, and while we're watching the films and enjoying conversation together, we're also sharing in coffee and crumbcake and muffins and all manner of goodies.

Join Us. 9:30. Teens, College,Young Adults, and Just Plain Adults are more than welcome.

About the NOOMA video series:

Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now, and anybody can be a part of it. He encouraged his listeners to search, to question, to wrestle with the implications of what he was saying and doing. He inspired, challenged, provoked, comforted, and invited people to be open to God’s work in this world. Wherever he went, whatever he did, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is always inviting us to open our eyes and join in. NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus. NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion.

Present Word - Location Workroom

Summer Quarter series: "Christian Commitment in Today's World", focuses on Christian commitment. The three units in this quarter explore the nature, foundation, and marks of commitment as they apply to Christians in today's world. The  August unit "The Marks of Christian Commitment," looks at how God sustains the faithful in all circumstances and calls them, throught Jesus' example, to claim life throught serving others. It looks at how Christian commitment draws believers into the future, preoccupied with God's mission in Christ. It descrives the joy and peace of commitment and focuses on how human commitment is upheld by God' commitment and faithfulness.

Wednesday Morning Men's Bible Study

6:00 AM IN WORKROOM. CONTACT, NEIL PALMER (360-1969)

We are continuing our study of the book Have A Little Faith, by Mitch Albom. Those who were born into faith, have lost faith, or are still searching will all be engaged and challenged by this powerful story of "finding faith" in relationships with others and with something greater than ourselves. In the book, Albom moves between two different worlds, Christian and Jewish, African-American and white, improverished and well-to-do, observing how two very different men employ faith similarly in fighting for survival: the older, suburban rabbi embracing it as death approaches; the younger, inner-city pastor relying on it to keep himslef and his church afloat. This is book about a life's purpose; about losing belief and finding it again; about the divine spark inside us all. It is one man's journey, but it is everyone's story.  Men of TCPC who enjoy the ‘Crack of Dawn’ are welcome to join this study.
