Getting to Know You and Sharing God’s Love...Visitation & Involvement

Within the next few months, members of the “Visitation and Involvement” committee will be visiting Three Chopt Presbyterian members to share God’s love, listen and learn and get to know each other better. Our goal is to visit with every TCPC member and their family in the next year or so.  This effort harkens back to our congregations’ beginning as a “House Church;” where gathering in one’s home to connect with one another is a natural and caring way to strengthen our church community, involvement and outreach.

Throughout our pilot-visitation program, members have said how much they have enjoyed the visit and now feel more connected to TCPC. Our team is very excited about sharing the love of Christ in a meaningful conversation with you and hope you will find the experience as rewarding as we have.

Visitation & Involvement will begin calling members over the next few weeks and throughout next year to set up times to meet. Teams of two will partner together to meet with you and your family in your home or wherever you prefer.

Feel free to reach out to any one of us if you have questions or thoughts you would like to discuss. We look forward to talking with you.

Yours in Christ,

Visitation and Involvement Committee
Bill Baird, John Ballsrud, Sally and Steve Bolte, Barclay Bradshaw, Nick Broughton, Anna Bryant, T.J. and Nancy Clayton, Jeff Harris, Bruce Osborne, Cory Ryan, Christi Shadbolt, Martin and Suzie Walker
This support group meets every Thursday, 2:00-4:00pm, and the second Saturday, 2:30-5:00pm.

The Tuesday Morning Bible Study - 10am in the Upstairs Fellowship Hall

The weekly Tuesday Morning Bible Study, held on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am in the Upstairs Fellowship Hall, is studying Jesus in the Gospels. This study invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask "Who is the Jesus that you see." This study will deepen discipleship through better understanding of the Biblical texts and the messages. Dr. Brenda Halbrooks leads this study.

Bible Blazers Bible Study and Luncheon - 3rd Wednesday, 10:30 am in the Upstairs Fellowship Hall

Our next meeting will be February 15th in the Upper Fellowship Hall.  This group will continue the study of the Psalms followed by a delicious homemade lunch. The human emotions expressed in the Book of Psalms rise to peaks of joy and descedt into the valley of despair. The Psalms come to us as a collection of moving testimonies of grace, glory, sorrow and beauty unmacthed in sacred literature. For students of the Psalms today, this study offers greater understanding of how these ancient text of praise, lament, worship, and prayer can still speak to us and for us. This is a great way to meet people, keep up with Church friends and news, and learn a little about the Bible. Plan to come and bring a friend! If interested or would like more information, please contact Dr. Brenda halbrooks (270-5452).

Tuesday Morning Men's Bible Study - 6am in the Workroom

We are studying 2 Peter, using the LifeChange Study series commentary. For young Christians facing ridicule in a pagan world, it was difficult to focus on their 'living hope.' The early church had learned how to deal with persecution from outside the community, but needed help defending themselves against those who would destroy their community from the inside. Differences within the community were not uncommon, but the church was facing those who purposely distorted the gospel for their own gain. 2 Peter denounces these false teachers, encouraging their readers to stand firm in the faith ,holding to the promise that Jesus would someday return. Peter's heartfelt challenge to practical Christianity is an inspitation to meet trials with the same confidence in "the God of all greace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ." Men of TCPC who enjoy the 'Crack of Dawn' are welcome to join in this study.

Sunday Night Men's Bible Study - 7:30pm in the Workroom

We are studying the book 'Character of the King-A Study in the Parables,' by Ward B. Schaap. This book examines the triats of Jesus as he described himselof in seven selected parables. Each of the 7 lessons begins with main and supplemental scripture passages for independent reading. A series of questions are presented for individual reflection, and a narrative section describes key points and considerations for the lesson. In our meetings group discussion of all these elements will be facilitated by a member of the group. All men of TCPC are welcome, regardless of any prior bible study or small group experience. Please contact Gary Darden (dardeng@veriozn.net or 651-5333) for additional information.

The study this quarter focuses on God's Covenant through Abraham. The theological emphasis is on faith. God promised Abraham that through him all the nations of the earth would be blessed, and that promise was passed on from generation to generation until it was fulfilled in Christ. The lessons for this quarter are taken from Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Galations. God's promise to Abraham is passed on from generation to generation and carried with Anraham's descendants into Egypt. The final lesson of the unit considers the songs of Moses and Miriam in Ex. 15. God delivesr Israel and leads them to safety in the desert. God's covenant faithfulness is proved again.

Welcome to Three Chopt Presbyterian Church!
We invite you to join us!  We have Inquirer classes in the fall, winter and spring at 10:00 am on Sundays in the Parlor. This class gives you a chance to meet other prospective members, elders and leaders of the church, and to learn much more about Three Chopt Presbyterian Church.  Review the following and contact one of the pastors with any questions.

There are several easy ways to become a member:

a.  by Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ, and Baptism -- If you have not been baptized, you may join by making a public profession of faith and being baptized. Those previously baptized simply need to publicly profess their faith.
b.  by Reaffirmation of Faith -- If you have been a member of a Christian church but have not been active in recent years, you may join by reaffirming your need of and dependence on Christ
c.  by Certificate of Transfer -- If you have made a profession of faith and are a member of another church, you may join by transferring your membership.  After you join Three Chopt, we will contact your former church and request your certificate of membership transfer.

The Day You Join - You will gather for photographs and a meeting with the Session.  You will be received into membership by answering the following questions:
1. Do you trust in Jesus Christ and accept him as your Lord and Savior?
2. Do you intend to be Christ's faithful disciple, seeking to obey his teaching and to show his love to your life's end?
3. Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in your baptism, to be a faithful member of this congregation, to share in its ministry through your prayers and gifts, your study and service, and so fulfill your calling to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?

You will be welcomed and introduced to the congregation at a worship service following your meeting with the Session.
