Mission and Service
Outreach Ministries
The Mission and Service Ministry Team meet on the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00pm in the Senior High Room at TCPC.
All are invited to attend. Please come join us!
Our activities currently include:
- Domestic Mission Trips: We provide and plan several mission trips in the summer of each year for participation of TCPC members. In 2008, our involvement with Trinity Reformed Church in Newark, NJ continues and a new opportunity in West Virginia has been developed. Team building and preparation usually begins in early spring. We also support the youth’s annual Washington, DC mission trip.
- International Mission Trip: We have developed a partnership with Berith Presbyterian Church in Chihuahua, Mexico. The relationship began in 2007 and another mission trip to Mexico is planned for the summer of 2009. This is coordinated through the Presbyterian Border Ministry at Pasos De Fe.
- CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved to Assure Shelter): Through this program, we have the opportunity to participate in the housing of homeless individuals for one week. Our next opportunity to serve will be the first week of March in 2008. We began our participation in March of 1992.
- Habitat for Humanity: We participate usually once a month with leadership from this organization by helping to build new housing while working with the persons to be living in the home.
- Shared Abundance Ministry: We coordinate the monthly collection of food, clothing or supplies that are donated by the congregation in support of local food banks (Lamb’s Basket, Central Virginia Food Bank), women’s shelters and children’s homes.
- Discretionary Benevolence Fund: Dispensing funds to individuals or families in need within the community: approved by the Discretionary Benevolence Fund Sub-Committee.
- Mission Education: Various opportunities are available to the congregation concerning mission awareness and action. This is done by an annual Mission Fair, monthly bulletin inserts, special speakers, posted bulletin board information and sponsoring special events.
- Recycling: This team coordinates the recycling of paper, bottles and cans used at TCPC.
- Special Offerings: This team coordinates six specials offerings throughout the year.
- “One Great Hour of Sharing (Easter/March-April) supports hunger relief, disaster assistance and international economic development.
- “Pentecost Offering” supports ministries to children at risk, child advocacy and ministries to youth and young adult.
- “Christmas Joy Offering” for church pensions and racial-ethnic education.
- “Red Stocking Offering” (December) supporting Virginia Chaplaincy programs.
- “5 Cents-A-Meal Offering” (year-round) collected on communion Sundays once a month.
- “TGI Wednesday Mealtime Collection” supports hunger programs at the PCUSA.
- Christmas Time Ministries: In addition to the financial support through the “Red Stocking Offering”, this team coordinates an Angle Tree Program of gathering and delivering Christmas presents to homes with parents in prison. Also, TCPC supports a Goochland Giving Program by gathering and delivering Christmas presents to needy families in Goochland County.
